5 Takeaways from Week 5 in Football

5 Takeaways From Week 5 in Football

1. ELIZABETHTOWN IS BACK! After starting 0-3 to begin the season, the Panthers exploded for 47-points in a big road win over Thomas Nelson. Head coach Mark Brown’s team started fast scoring on long touchdown plays on their first two possessions on a 76-yard run and a 52-yard run and never looked back. The Panthers rolled up 264-yards in offense in just the first half while the Generals struggled against a tough Elizabethtown defense.

2. Bulldogs win was one for the AGES! It wasn’t the fact that they won the game over Central Hardin, it was the way they won it coming back from a 17-6 deficit to start the fourth quarter when the Bulldog offense struggled to move the ball most of the game. Their first touchdown came as of a result of creative rollout by quarterback Justin Russell to Markeluis Hill who got lost in the Bruins coverage. the second came on a fade route in the right corner of the end zone for the game winner. It was a great comeback against a tough Bruins defense and a hostile crowd. Now only time will tell were it takes them.

3. A TOUGH loss on the other side. For every great comeback there are questions to be answered as to why it happened on the other side and for Central Hardin coach Tim Mattingly there were many. Down to his fourth Quarterback, it appeared the Bruins running game had the game under control, but a 49-yard touchdown pass, a safety and a controversial touchdown turned a 17-6 lead to a 22-17 loss. Still, the Central Hardin attack did well rushing for 233 -yards and the defense except for a few missed coverages did quite well. With winless Warren Central next, the Bruins should start to get healthy again.

4. Boyle @ North Hardin should be a GOOD one! This week we will find out how far the Trojans have come in one season as they will host state champion Boyle County (3-A) on Homecoming Night!. One of the biggest matchups will be the Rebels offense which has averaged 40-points a game against the North Hardin defense which has allowed 20-points just twice during their 4-1 start. On the other hand, the Rebel’s will have to find an answer to the Trojans passing combination of Eric Moore to Josh Moore, who have combined for 28 receptions and 9-TDs totaling 532-yards. North can run the ball pretty good too, so it should be quite a game.

5. The HAWKS keep soaring! LaRue County head coach Josh Jaggers might have had reservations after a tough loss in week four, but that changed quickly after their 45-18 win over Hart County. The Hawks chewed up huge chunks of yardage on the ground thanks to senior back Anthony Atkins 209-yards rushing and three touchdowns. Jeremiah Belton added 83-yards and two more TDS in the big win. At 3-2, LaRue County heads up to Adair County to add on to their win total and even more momentum.
