After Slow Start, Purples Overpower Graves County at Marshall County Hoopfest

After picking up a win over Allen County Scottsville last night, the Purples took to the road to the Marshall County Hoopfest to take on Graves County.  Coach Sherrill warned this could be a tough, physical matchup in an unfriendly environment, and the game certainly started out that way.

Graves County went with a 2-3 zone for the majority of the game, and it stifled the Purples offense early, as they shot only 24 percent from the field.  Graves County would control the pace for the entire first half, and took the lead into the break 23-18.  Any time the Purples got close, the Eagles would respond with a clutch three, keeping the Purples at bay.

The second half started with a seven point run for Bowling Green, as they took the lead for the first time since the first basket of the game.  The third quarter would go back and forth from that point, but the Purples would outscore Graves County in the period, and we were tied heading into the fourth.  As much as the Eagles were able to limit second chance opportunities in the first half, it was offensive rebounds for the Purples that helped Bowling Green separate themselves in the fourth quarter, as Terry Taylor and Kyran Jones crashed the glass.  Making their free throws late, the Purples would clinch a double digit victory 62-50.  Terry Taylor was again the player of the game with 24 points.  Kyran Jones followed him with 16, and Thomas Booker also reached double figures with 12.

A couple days off for basketball, as they play again on Tuesday night in Elizabethtown.  But the Football Purples vie for a State Title tomorrow night!  Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00, join us for the broadcast right here on SportingTimesMagazine.com!
