District 14 Baseball Tournament | Preview, Bracket, Predictions, Information

Postseason baseball has arrived. For all five teams in District 14, it all comes down to this. It’s win or go home. Warren East High School is the place to be this week, as each squad will be trying to survive and advance.

As all five area teams enter with hopes of taking home the trophy, only one club will be able to say they won the 2017 District 14 Baseball Tournament, which begins Monday evening at Warren East High School.

From Monday to Wednesday, fans from all ages will fill the Raiders’ ballpark to cheer on their respected teams and use their voices and hands to try and lead those squads to victories night in and night out, which is often referred to as “Surviving and Advancing.”

Here’s a rundown on the tournament, which will make for three days of postseason baseball action:

1) Bowling Green

2) South Warren

3) Warren East

4) Greenwood

  5) Warren Central

District 14 Baseball Tournament Schedule:

  • Monday, May 22 – No. 4 Greenwood (15-18, 4-7) vs. No. 5 Warren Central (2-26, 0-11) – 6 p.m.

Greenwood swept the regular-season series against Warren Central, winning 11-1 and 14-1, respectively. The Gators enter Monday’s tournament opener following an 11-0 loss to Franklin-Simpson while the Dragons have lost four straight. Expect Nate Cunningham to start on the mound for Greenwood while Warren Central starts Noah Thornberry. For the winner of the meeting, it doesn’t get any easier, as it’ll have to face top-seeded Bowling Green.

Tyler’s Prediction: Greenwood 9, Warren Central 2

  • Tuesday, May 23 – No. 1 Bowling Green (23-12, 9-3) vs. No. 4 Greenwood/No. 5 Warren Central – 5 p.m.

Bowling Green, as previously stated, gets the winner of Greenwood and Warren Central in the semifinals. The Purples enter the tournament carrying momentum from a 10-1 win over Apollo, which will be their first postseason under head coach Matt Myers. In the regular-season, Bowling Green swept both Greenwood and Central, so its familiar with how to get by each team.

Tyler’s Prediction: Bowling Green 7, Greenwood 3

  • Tuesday, May 23 – No. 2 South Warren (19-16, 8-4) vs. No. 3 Warren East (23-7, 8-4) – 7:30 p.m.

When Warren East and South Warren meet in Tuesday’s nightcap, it’s bound to make for the best game of the tournament – besides the championship, that is. South Warren took the first two games of the two teams’ regular-season series – which was March 28 and 29 – but Warren East won a made-up Game 3, 11-4, on May 8. The Raiders enter the tournament as the hottest team, winning four-straight games and eight of their last 10. However, the Spartans have also been victorious in their last four outings.

Tyler’s Prediction: Warren East 4, South Warren 2

  • Wednesday, May 24 – Championship – 6 p.m.

As it’ll likely be No. 1 Bowling Green vs. No. 3 Warren East in the title match – as I have it, at least – it’ll be East’s first District 14 Tournament championship appearance since 2011 and the fourth consecutive for BG. The Raiders took two of the three games against the Purples in their regular-season series, as Bowling Green took the finale, 6-1, to avoid the sweep.

Tyler’s Prediction: Warren East 2, Bowling Green 1 – Both go to Region 4 Tournament at WKU
