Dragons and Spartans Battle to Wild Finish

In what turned out to be one of the most compelling games of the year in Region 4, South Warren hosted Warren Central and Sparty showed up…early, late, often, constantly.  The Leachman Keys to the Game on the broadcast were simple…stay in it early, protect the ball and break the pressure with constant movement…and be patient on offense and slow the game down a bit.  South Warren, led by a stellar first half effort from Dayton Gumm and Bryan Cummings at the point guard spot, led the 14-4 Dragons 28-27 at the half.JEFF BROWN
The third period saw the lead swing back and forth and then finally Central pulled to a seven poing lead, scoring eight unanswered.  South Warren just kept on fighting.  GoSpartanNation Player of the Game Jordan Buchanan had six in the third and made play after play after play.  He finished with a game high 16 points.  The score was tied going into the fourth period and it was tied with zero seconds left in the game…explain that you ask?
South Warren tied it with ten seconds left…57-57.  Rondell Green pushed the ball up and got it to Chris Porter-Bunton, who went for the rim on the right side and was blocked by Brad Logsdon as time expired.  OVERTIME!  No…the officials blew the whistle with no time left and said Logsdon fouled CPB.  He was given two free throw attempts with no time left, made the first and that was it.  The officials basically ran off the court after the game to a thunderous chorus of boos.  Derrick Clubb spoke to Jason Martin after the game and said it was a good call and you had to make it there.  Jason on the broadcast later in the post game…disagreed.  Controversial but South Warren falls to 10-11 on the season and host Russellville on Friday night.
Jordan Buchanan – 16
Zach McDaniel – 13
Dayton Gumm – 9
