South Warren to make a blustery trip to Owensboro Catholic

South Warren will hit the road on Friday evening with a venture up the Natcher Parkway to take on Owensboro Catholic on a blustery fall evening in Owensboro, looking to get back to its winning ways.

At game time, the temperature in Owensboro is expected to be 42 degrees with a 100 percent chance of rain, so ball security will be a key factor for both teams in tonight’s contest.

When the month of October began, South Warren was 7-0 and had trailed for a total of two minutes the entire season.

In a complete turnaround, the Spartans suffered a 31-17 setback to Ravenwood (TN) on Oct. 6, and South Warren was graciously humbled by Bowling Green, 43-7, in the first meeting between the two schools last Friday night.

South Warren will try to avoid having a three-game losing streak for the first time since its inaugural season back in 2011.

The Aces (6-3, 3-0 Class 2A District Two) are coming into their first ever showdown against South Warren with plenty of momentum after winning four straight games.

Owensboro Catholic defeated Butler County, McLean County, Hancock County and Todd County Central by a combined score of 206-34 before enjoying a bye week last Friday.

The Spartans are led by junior quarterback Gavin Spurrier, who has completed 105-of-172 passes for 1,654 yards and 17 touchdowns, while tossing six interceptions.

The Spartans will face off against Owensboro Catholic’s senior quarterback Drew Hartz, who has completed 80-of-132 passes for 1,203 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season.

Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Steele Stadium, and fans are advised to prepare for the elements. If you can’t make the trip to Owensboro tonight, listen to our broadcast at STBNTV.com, pre-game starting at 6:50 p.m.
