2020 Basketball Preview : Breckinridge County Tigers and Lady Tigers

                                                              Breckinridge County Tigers

                                                              2019-2020 Record – 20-10

Last season, the Breckinridge Basketball team bounced back from a 2018-2019 3rd Region Tournament run in which they had a complete team, but dropped a heartbreaker to Owensboro in the Region Final in Overtime fashion. The 2019-2020 team had a great chenistry, but struggled at times with a 20-10 record and another 11th District championship, but  a close loss to McLean County ended their season.

Coming into his 14th season as the Tigers coach, Patrick Critchelow will have to replace their top three scorers (Kaeveon Mitchell, Justin Strewsberry and Brock Lucas), top two rebounders and his top three point shooter and another scorer as well.

He does have several seniors that will see playing time in Kason Morris, a guard that was fourth on the team in scoring (234-points), seniors Ethan Lucas, Ryan Crist and Cole Critchelow. Lucas is a guard which will help out on the floor, while Crist is a center and Crtichelow is a forward which should help out on rebounds. Junior guard Isaac Seeger was the fifth leading scorer on the team and 2nd in made three pointers.

The Tigers will begin the season on the road at Daviess County on Tuesday then at Grayson County.

                                                           Breckinridge County Lady Tigers

                                                              2019-2020 Record – 21-11

For the past five seasons, the Lady Tigers have been one of the best teams in the 3rd Region without a Championship. In 2016, they made a Region final appearance and for the past four seasons have made it to the Region Semi-finals before bowing out. Last year’s three point loss to Muhlenberg County was especially difficult and under head coach Chad Moorman, they have always been a fast paced team.

This season, Moorman once again has all the necessary tools to make another run at the Region Championship and a possible trip to the KHSAA state tournament. The Lady Tigers return every starter except one. Even with Natalee Tabor gone, Breckinridge County should still be a force to be reckoned with in the 3rd Region.

Junior point guard Isabel Grimes was the team’s leading scorer (430-points) and led the Lady Tigers in made threes. Senior forward Aleigha Mucker was the teams second leading scorer (406-points) and led them in rebounding (235). Senior Cassidy McDaniel scored 309-points and was second on the team in three point shooting. Junior’s Sydney and Sklar Tucker can score (269-points and 86-points) and play the transition game well. Junior center Lily Critchelow will see playing time at center and junior forward Natalie Henning will play more as well. Breckinridge County opens the season tomorrow at home against Mer
