John Hardin Bulldogs: 2021 Record:16-6
Coming off the heels of another competitive season, the Bulldogs came one step away from returning to the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen, but Elizabethtown ended that dream. Still, John Hardin will return a great core of talent, but under a different coach as Jared McCurry stepped down and Austin Jones will be the new head guy. Jones will take over a team which lost two of their top scorers, but will return Amareion Doctor (333-points), Jalen Tyus (295-points) and Devon Rogers (185-points) along with several guys who will get more playing time this season. “The outlook looks promising. We have a great group of senior leaders who have played in big games. Their leadership will be valuable throughout the season. I expect us to continue to improve.”
Jones expects big things from A.J. Doctor, who has spent time expanding his game. Tyus had one of the best summers of any of his players and will attack the rim more than being just a shooter. Corey Brown is one of the best defenders on the team. Jamal Smith, at 6’5” has been a pleasant surprise in the post. With several players still playing football, more will be known after the season ends.

In her third season as the Lady Bulldogs coach, Nicki Coleman did notice some steady improvement and will return all five starters from a squad that won 10-games and were in several games in the first half, but were unable to finish strong. “I think we are stronger than last year and have developed our classmen to fill important roles. I think we should finish in the top two of the district. I think we are quicker than in past years and have more scoring potential.” Freshman Sharon Tidwell had a great eighth-grade year and led the team in scoring with 270-points and also led the team in made free throws along with pulling down 170-rebounds.
