Outlook- After showing some progress during the pandemic year (2020), the Green Wave may have taken a step back in 2021 with a 2-9 record, however Meade County does have several skill players returning and hopefully coach Larry Mofield should be able to find replacements for those that have graduated.
Offense- The Meade County offense scored just 126-points in eleven games last season (down from 124 in just ten games in 2020) and the Green Wave struggled to create offense whether it be on the ground or through the air. However, Mofield will have some continuity with quarterback Andrew Millay returning to a passing attack which produced 1,271-yards. Last season, both Millay and Kyle Parker split time under center in their Wing T attack. The running game struggled producing just 595-yards and with Parker also the leading rusher graduated, the burden will fall on seniors Damiano Davis (110-yards) and Jacob Lacefield (90-yards). Meade County graduated Lawson King (23-catches), Levi Stull (25-catches) and Nolan Whebrey ((22-catches), so Mofield will look for other guys to catch the ball. The Offensive Line will return center seniors Caden Collins, Nick Fenn and Caleb Hinton. Also, Thomas Fox will get time there as well.
Defense- Like the Offense, Defense had it’s problems last season as well as it gave up 285-points and there will be some returnees as well. The Defensive Line will be retooled because of graduations. The Linebackers lost Mason Brandon, Lawson King, Griffin Blair and Ethan Johnson. Leading tackler Jacob Lacefield is a returner as is Jay Fortner and Thomas Fox can see time at linebacker as well.. The secondary did also take a hit with Nolan Whobrey and Julain Perales gone. Only Andrew Millay will be back, so Mofield will look for replacements.
Summation- It’s been quite a while since the Green Wave have been competitive in 6-A and the road has been long and difficult. This could be one of those bridge seasons as Mofield begins integrating younger players as well as experience. A few breaks in the schedule could mean some improvement as well as reflected in their record.
