2023 Football Preview: Elizabethtown Panthers

                                                          Head coach- Alfiedo Silva

                                                          2023 Record- 8-4

Many changes- After three seasons as head coach and compiling a 25-11 record including a trip to the Class 3-A State finals, Ross Brown stepped down leaving a relatively talented and experienced team with former assistant coach Alfredo Silva. Silva will inherit a Panther squad with several skill position players returning, but he will have to fill some holes after losing a team which went 8-4 after losing their starting quarterback going into the start of the season. Also, Elizabethtown will be dealing with a district change as they will now face CAL and Louisville Central as District opponents, so the new guy will have plenty to adjust to as the new season starts.

Offense- Coach Brown had two capable quarterbacks coming into the new season, but that number shank down to just one as Greyson Hainer suffered a season ending injury forcing him to move Ryder Gregory back permanently under center and he did an admirable job, but with him gone, Hainer will most likely be the starting QB. Silva will also return one of the most explosive backs to the offense in Trey Durbin. Hainer will also have both seniors Durbin and Carter Moberly to throw to this season. The offensive line will look different with four of the starting five gone leaving just Jayden Evans, so replacements will have to be found and depth.

Defense- The Panther defense actually allowed fewer points last season (205) than the season before, but Silva will have to revamp a defensive line which lost plenty returning only Jayden Evans. The Linebackers will return seniors Trey Durbin, Carter Moberly and Nolan Maggard. The Defensive secondary will look for replacements as well with both Gregory and Drew Camon gone, but Hainer returns.

Summation- Silva will have his hands full with plenty of decisions and a new district opponent schedule in 2023. But a talented group of underclassman will do wonders for the program which always seems to fill out a competitive squad.

2023 schedule- The Panthers will kickoff the season on August 18th @ Fairdale (11-2) and then two more road games against Meade County (6-6) and then Taylor County (6-5) to start September. Then things get interesting with five straight home games with Hart County (9-3), Bardstown (14-1), Shelby Valley on Saturday (10-3), Louisville Central (9-5) and then LaRue County (4-7) before traveling to play CAL (15-0) before ending the regular season at home against Seneca (8-4). Elizabethtown will face eight teams with winning records including three with double digit win totals.
