2023 Football Preview: Green County Dragons

                                                        Head Coach- Colt Phelps

                                                        2022 Record- 7-4

2022 Season- Off the heels of their exciting 2021 11-2 record, the Dragons had plenty of skill players returning the following year and put together a 7-4 record under second year head coach Colt Phelps, who took over after Jeremy Whitlow stepped down. Green County still has plenty coming back for another successful season in 2023.

Offense- Another banner season for the offense as it put up over 400-points for the second straight season (416). Although, Phelps will need to find another feature back for the running game (Blake Houchins graduated 1,111-yds 12-TDs), but senior Julian Seymour returns as does Gage Bale. The passing game will feature junior Houston Hodges (1,640-yards 17-TDs) and although Logan Slinker (29-catches) and Zack Ferguson (26-catches) are gone, Hodges still has Kelson McKinney (31-catches 659-yds 9-TDs) returning. The Offensive Line will lose Cade Kessler and Gage Corbin, but will return Mason Fioggett, Carson Scott and Koltyn Milby, while Phelps looks for replacements.

Defense- The Defense once again put-up good numbers allowing just 266-points in eleven games and will return much of their squad this season for another run. The Defensive Line will lose Gage Corbin and Case Kessler, but Carson Scott, Koltyin Milby, Andrew Houlk and Ashtin Guenters. The Linebackers and secondary will lose a few parts, but the squad will return Gage Bale, Jake Bishop, Kelon Mckinney and Julian Seymour.

Summation- The past several seasons have been a great reminder of what the program aspires to be and with another group of talented skill players, there’s no reason why it can’t happen again if Phelps can put together an efficient running game.
