2023 Record: 3-8
Head Coach: Brent Hottell
2023: After a winless 2022 season, the Tigers did seem to make great strides the following year with three wins using the strength of a strong senior class. After pulling off an exciting 14-7 win over Fort Knox, Breckinridge County played consistent for the next several weeks going 1-2 while scoring about 20-points a game, but after a 48-20 win over Valley, the struggles continued going 1-5 to end the regular season and then ending the season with a loss to Paducah Tilghman. 2024 could be a bit rough as Hottell will have to replace plenty of skill players.
Offense: The Tigers did nearly double their offensive output in 2024 (162-points compared to 92 in 2022), but with plenty of skill players to replace, Hottell will have his hands full. Wyatt Burnett wasn’t just a good passer (threw for 1,361-yards), but also the leading rusher (461-yards and 6-TDS). He and Liam Clark (355-yards) will be missed as will Ladarian Parker, who ran for 177-yards as well. Lance Poole will be back and Hottell will have to find a running game with other guys. Burnett and backup Chase Hardesty threw to Ladarian Parker (31-catches), but Poole (22-catches 8-TDs), Hardesty (20-catches and Grant Compton. The Offensive Line will miss center Keaton Sosh and Rylee Grant, but Hunter Davis, Dylan Nash and Wilson Hart will be back and Hottell will find replacements.
Kicking Game: Lance Poole will be back after going 2-of-5 on PATS.
Defense: The Tigers did allow a few less points (402 compared to 462 in 2022) on defense, but that side of the ball was also decimated by graduation as well. The Defensive Line did lose Wyatt Burnett, but Grant Compton, Benjamin Furgerson and Wilson Hart will anchor that side of the ball. The Linebackers took a hit with Liam Clark, Tre Hofmann and Quenten Rhinehart (who led the team in tackles with 41), so Hottell will need replacements. The defensive backs lost Ladarian Parker, Korey Alexander and Zach Davis, who was 2nd on the team in tackles (39), but Joaquin Hernandez and Lance Poole (who led the team with three picks will help anchor the backfield.
Summation: The Tigers have struggled over the years to maintain any kind of consistency and this season probably won’t be any different, still the smallest bit of improvement won’t be lost as Hottell will continue to put together a competitive team in a rebuilding year.
