5 Takeaways from the Week in Football
John Hardin is HOTTTT!!!! – Hard to believe that the Bulldogs haven’t lost a game since August the 31st, but this team has not lost since and with a favorable schedule could run the regular season table as only Moore (7-1) is the last team to challenge them on the road on October 19th before their 11th week BYE. The reasons are simple for their success and that’s efficient offense and a rock hard defense. The Bulldogs have allowed double digit scores once since their winning streak began and the offense has put up an average of 30-points a game three times as well.

Meade County is what they ARE! Okay. That may seem simple, but look at a team which ran off nine minutes on their opening drive against North Hardin to score their only points of the game and only threw six times after that. The Green Wave are a run oriented team which simply runs the ball at will to control the game. Nathan Holly pounded out 136-yards in alosing effort and the team struggles (scoring only 30-points during their four game losing streak when that doesn’t work. With Central Hardin coming up they should feel right at home against former coach Tim Mattingly.

Central Hardin and Meade County could be a SHORT affair. If there are two teams which look in a mirror and see each other then it probably are those two. They run similar offensive sets and are usually tough defensively at least until this year. Both teams are suffering through different issues and both LOVE to run the ball so it could be a game which lasts a little less than two hours as neither will put much stock in the passing game. Bruin head coach Tim Mattingly has weathered a season like no other for him starting at the quarterback position where they are their fifth. Meade County struggles to mount offense so running the ball will be the best option for both.

Trojans get a much deserved BYE after win at Meade County. After playing one of the toughest schedules in the area, North Hardin finished the first eight games of their regular season with a 24-7 win over the Green Wave in their first District game. The only thing you can say bad about that team is their kicking game which had two PAT’s blocked and the missed opportunites against DeSales led to a three point loss. Still, Brent Thompson has been a huge surprise as many predicted a 4-6 or 5-5 at best for this team and they have proven everyone wrong. One again the defense came through holding Meade County scoreless the rest of the way after allowing an opening drive TD.

Hawks and Panthers will be for the District Title. Last season, LaRue County came into their game against Elizabethtown undefeated and left with their first loss. This season, head coach Josh Jaggers feels like this season they may be on more even ground as the Panthers travel to LaRue County for a game which could decide the District Title and a possible two game homefield playoff adavntage if thee get that far. With the Hawks and Panthers both at 4-3 Hodgensville will be jumping tonight.
GAME OF THE WEEK- Hodgesville should be ROCKING tonite so if you don’t get there early, you may be parking several miles down the road from the stadium. This this the game that LaRue County has been waiting for and a chance to avenge an embarassing loss to Elizabethtown last year. Also these are two very different teams from last season in that the Panthers don’t have the quck strike ability with Jay Becherer, Kass Disney and Tyler Durbin gone and the Hawks have allowed points and yards on the other side of the ball while relying on their game plan of grounding it out. Look for both teams passing game depending on which team falls behind early.
