5 Takeaways from Week 7 in Football
PANTHERS ARE GROWLING AGAIN! After a 0-3 start (the first for head coach Mark Brown in some time) against three of the toughest opponents in the state, it didn’t take long for Elizabethtown to get back in the win column and have evened their record at 3-3 with a win over Hart County. The 34-7 vctory was a result of the running game (a staple of Brown teams wherever he is) and a strong defense which limited the Raiders to just one score late in the game (with :07 remaining to be precise). Joesph Becherer was a beast behind the Panther offensive line pounding out 152-yards and a touchdown and quarterback Clay Games has settled down completing 7-of-13 for 93-yards and a touchdown.
COUNTDOWN TO THE HAWKS GAME! Perhaps no game in the area for 3-A will not be more anticipated than the Week 8 match between Elizabethtown and LaRue County and with the game being in Hodgensville, the stadium should be rocking as it might be a showdown for first in the District. Last week, the Hawks lost a heartbreaker to Lincoln County, 14-13 when an excessive celebration penalty after LaRue County’s score pushed the ball back for the two point conversion wth LaRue County trailing by one and it was unsuccessful. At 4-3 and Elizabethtown hosting Adair County, it should be quite a game.
THE BULLDOGS ARE STREAKING! Funny how a team’s fortunes can change just because of one game, but after their dramatic win over Central Hardin, John Hardin has been HOTTER than a comet and after their demolision of Louisville Western might make a case for one of the best in the area. John Hardin jumped out in front 26-0 after one quarter and extended the lead to 42-0 by the half meaning the game was on a running clock. Senior quarterback Justin Russell was 11-for 18 and 115 –yards and a touchdown, while the Bulldogs ran for 113-yards on the ground with Dominik Hodges getting 70 for a score and the defense has played steady as well.
TROJANS WIN ONE AND LOSE TWO IN TWO WEEKS! If it’s possible for the North Hardin Trojans to play any better against two top ranked unbeaten opponents in consecutive weeks while losing both games and still come out with a win then it has truly been a strange week. Despite facing unbeaten DeSales (a titan in 3-A) and coming up short again, North Hardin found out they did get a win from a forfeit by Clarksville Northeast (TENN) because it was ruled they had used an ineligible player so after the 27-24 loss to the Colts, the Trojans record sits at 5-2, but once again they did have their chances thanks to three touchdown hookups by brothers Eric and Josh Moore and the North Hardin defense held the Colts scoreless in the second half.
TIGERS SHOW IMPROVEMENT! After going 0-10 last season and scoring a total of 54-points in ten games, the Breckinridge County Tigers have shown some improvement this season with a 3-3 record, thus far, but going into their Thursday Night game against powerful 4-A Moore , it was clear that they and head coach Brent Hottell were over their head. The Tigers were held to just 72-yards rushing and the defense gave up 224 on the ground in a 34-0 loss. Things coud be looking up, because although they face a hot John Hardin team, the Tigers will see Valley and Hancock County and could add on to their win total this season.
