5th Region Basketball Tournament

This year’s 5th Region Boys Basketball Tournament at Central Hardin high school will definitely have a familiar flavor and hopefully a champion that will contend for the KHSAA State Title after last year’s unfortunate pandemic cancellation

Thing s get started today at 6:00 with the first game on tap will possibly be the most interesting with 18th District Champ LaRue County (18-2) going against John Hardin (14-5). Coach Paul Childress has done a marvelous job rebuilding this team on the run after losing so many scorers on last season’s top flight team and they will be almost looking in the mirror with a John Hardin team which also looks different after last season’s graduation gutted the top three scorers as well, yet Jared McCurry’s team has challenged all season.

The 8:30 matchup pitts Campbellsville (12-18) against Washington County ( 14-10) and a great game between a couple of great teams. The Commanders are led by senior Josh Burkhead and freshman Beau Baker, while Campbellsville is coming off a win over Marion County in the 20th District championship and are led by John Orberson.

Tuesday will start off with Bardstown (14-11) against Marion County (6-12) and James Brewer has delt with injuries to key starters all season, but look to be ready for the their game against the Knights. Guard Andrew Mason has carried the team all season long will can do it again if necessary. Graduations gutted the Knights scoring this season, but Maze Stallworth has found help in Jewells James and Dominic White.

The 8:30 game will see Elizabethtown (16-2) against Hart County (12-9). There’s no question that James Haire has the ingredients for a State Champion in this team and it’s led by eight seniors and one of the most dangerous shooters in the area in Jaquais Franklin and a smothering defense which turns teams over at an alarming rate. Hart County will definitely be tested against the skilled Panthers. Still, scorers Devin Roten and Ethan Devore will give it their best in the second game of the double header.

Semi Finals are Friday 6:00 and 8:30 and then the Final is Saturday at 6:30.

Good Luck Guys!
