5th Region District Roundup

DISTRICTS ROUND-UP

With the 5th Region area Districts getting started tomorrow there are a lot of great games to look forward to and here are the matchups as they appear.

17th District @ North Hardin: Monday 5:30 John Hardin (13-4) will face Central Hardin (4-13) – It’s been a rough season for Bruin coach Matt Nickell as his team has struggled during games and with the injury that sidelined guard Brett Decker for several games, but Central Hardin has seven juniors with scoring ability including Hayden Ash and Landon Elmore. John Hardin has surprised many with their quick start and consistent play Anthony Bowen, Amareion Doctor and Jalen Tyus along with Devon Rogers and look to make the District Final to repeat as champions.

Elizabethtown (14-2) @ North Hardin (9-7) – Hard to believe that as talented as the Panthers have been, it’s been a while since they have been District Champions, but this time around they are the experienced team with eight seniors (most starters) and the Region POY in Jaquais Franklin along with Khia and Kam Sherrard. Jacob Moberly, Alandre Murphy and Camden Williams are all dangerous and have quick hands. North Hardin enters with their first .500 record in three seasons and unlike Elizabethtown are young in a lot of spots. Other than senior Marcus Scisney, Queshaun Davis, Shaun Boykins and Jujuan Williams are underclassmen and will have to grow up fast to handle the Panthers.

18th District @ LaRue County: Tuesday Caverna (4-14) @ LaRue County(16-2)- The Colonels will go up against the Hawks and are led in scoring by Meek Ater and Cameron Buchanan, but will have a tall task tackling the Hawks. Coach Paul Childress has done a marvelous job rebuilding a team which lost it’s top scorers and replaced them with youngsters like freshman Cutter Boley, sophomore Carson Childress, junior Kellen Bowen along with senior Jeremiah Belton.

Wednesday Green County (11-6) will face Hart County (11-8) in what should be an interesting matchup. The Dragons took the only regular season matchup between the two teams, 64-55. Hayden Blakeman (19-points), Kellen Whitlow (16-points) and Gunner Bush (16-points) had big games as the team shot 25-of-45 from the field. Hart County is having a great season behind the scoring of Devin Roten, Ethan Devore and Jaxson Shoulders.

19th District @ Nelson County: Monday Bethlehem (4-18) will face Nelson County (6-18) and although the Eagles have struggled this season, they still can be competitive behind Camden Porter and Hayden Osborne’s shooting. The Cardinals have also had a rough season, but facing Bethlehem with a chance to advance to the next game should give them incentive. The Cards are led by Lincoln Boone and Lawson Strenecky. The winner will face top seed Bardstown (12-11) Tuesday and James Brewer may have them playing their best at the right time. Andrew Mason, Bryce Riley and Javon Smith are top scorers. The winner of that game will face the winner of Wednesday’s game between Washington County (13-9) and Thomas Nelson (14-5). This should be a great matchup as the Commanders have been a surprise behind Josh Burkhead and Beau Baker, while the Generals are having a great season behind Braden Smith, Andrew Hogan and Riley Brown.

20th District @ Adair County: Monday Adair County (15-7) will face Campbellsville (10-18) and coach Jeffrey Breeze has a pretty good year with Lucas Pooler, Luke Janes and Conner Loy scoring over 200-points each. The Eagles beat the Indians in their only regular season match and got big games from John Orberson (13-points), Arren Hash (12-points) and Kameron Smith (11-points). The winner will face the team which emerges from Tuesday’s game between Taylor County (11-7) and Marion County (5-11). Coach Montrelle Irvin has got some great seasons from Carson Watson, Conner Wise and Layken Lyons, while coach Maze Stallworth’s team has struggled, but have some great performances by Kanyon Scott-Spalding, James Jewell and Dominic White.
