5th Region State Baseball Preview
With the KHSAA State baseball tournament coming up, one of the more intriguing games will be tomorrow’s first game between 5th Region representative Marion County and 14th Region representative Hazard. Hazard, coached by John Mechan is a 30-game winner which scored 272-runs (1st in the 14th) and a pitching staff which held opponents to just 107 (2nd).
On the other hand, Marion County is making there first trip to the state tournament EVER. The Knights are led by eight seniors and a pitching staff which helped outscore opponents 221 to 92 during the season. The Knights, who had never advanced to this far outscored their three opponents in the Region Tournament 33-4 and mercy ruled two of them. Head coach Patrick Campbell will attempt to advance his team against a Hazard squad which made it to the second round of the State Tournament last season. First pitch is at 11:00 am and the winner will face the winner of the 1:30 game which pits Boyle County against Knox Central.
