Purples Surge in Second Half to Claim Meijer Classic Title

Bowling Green took on Saint Xavier in the championship game of the Meijer Holiday Classic. The Purples used a huge 3rd quarter to defeat the Tigers 71-52.

The two teams went back and forth in the 1st half. The Purples led 14-12 after the 1st quarter, but a 7-0 Tiger run in the 2nd quarter gave Saint Xavier a 28-26 at the half. The Tigers came out right where they left off in the 3rd quarter, scoring the first 4 10 of the 2nd half. After that, the Purples took over. A 1-2-2 press forced multiple Tiger turnovers and the Purples were able to capitilize, going on a 17-0 run in the 3rd quarter. After only scoring 3 points in the 1st half, Junior forward Terry Taylor dominated the Tigers defense in the 2nd half by scoring 19 points. The Purples led the Tigers 48-38 after the 3rd quarter.

The Tigers hit three 3-pointers to start off the 4th quarter but were not able to slow do wn the Purples offense. Slowly but surely, the Purples were able to pull away for a 71-52 victory. Terry Taylor led all scores with 22 points while Junior forward Kyran Jones had 13 points. Senior guard William Olsen led the Tigers with 17 points.
