Bree Glover’s lay-up at the buzzer gave Glasgow a one point lead at the half, 27-26. It was physical and well-played, and the stage was set for an entertaining second half of action.
The Lady Spartans took the lead and it seesawed back and forth during the third quarter, before an extended stoppage of play for blood on the floor. At that point, it was 32-30 South Warren, but the Lady Spartans wouldn’t score again in the quarter. It was 37-32 Glasgow as Glover scored again at the buzzer, in similar fashion to how she ended the first half.
Glasgow built a seven point lead in the fourth quarter, but South Warren fought back, trailing by just one and leading by one in the final minute as well. Amaya Lasley fouled out of the game with 2:05 remaining, which changed everything. Fouls in the third quarter went 6-0 in favor of the Lady Scotties in the third, and even though they evened up to some extent late, the difficulty hampered Amaya’s effectiveness. She finished with 17.
Bree Glover’s 28 was the story, particularly how often her buckets were accompanied with trips to the foul line. She did not shoot it well from the line, which helped mitigate what could have been a 35 point performance.
In the final 30 seconds, South Warren had two chances to take the lead. Glover stole a lackadaisical bounce pass, but Deanna Taylor chased her and poked it off Bree and out of bounds. Zayana Bailey was then called for a walk with under ten seconds to play. South Warren desperately tried to foul but the officials did not blow the whistle, rewarding Glasgow for elusive passing as the clock ticked to zero.
A heartbreaker for South Warren as the team has lost two in a row. The Lady Spartans don’t play again until next Friday against Muhlenberg County.
FINAL: Glasgow 44, South Warren 43

——————————
South Warren’s boys have begun to figure things out. It took a month under a new coach and a new system, but the players are buying in and the coach is proud of the advances his kids have taken. The Spartans entered as winners of two of their last three games, both region battles, and traveled to Glasgow looking for another road win. This game, just as Logan County had gone on Tuesday, began with a 17-4 South Warren run.
Different, however, was the run, or lack thereof, from the Scotties. South Warren took the lead and went home for the night. It wasn’t ever particularly close, which benefited SWHS, who knew it had to play Henderson County less than 18 hours later back at home. Dayton Gumm scored 18, continuing his torrid shooting, and he’s now put up an impressive 73 points in his last three games.
Dylan Beckham again showed versatility as a perimeter passer and a low-post scorer, finishing with 14. Both he and Gumm shot very well from the free throw line as well, which put the game out of reach quickly. Most of the starters were out of the game throughout much of the second half, as South Warren led at one point by 26. The Spartans would win it by 16 as the reserves played out the final eight minutes.
