Purples hold off Russellville in Regional showdown

With both teams coming off big victories friday night, Bowling Green and Russellville met saturday night in a matchup of two of the top 5 teams in the region. Russellville gave the Purples all they could handle but Bowling Green pulled away by a final score of 75-68.
The Panthers hit the Purples in the mouth early and took a 17-13 lead after the 1st quarter. DeAndre Bradshaw created problems for the Purples defense as he scored 12 points in the 1st half. Bowling Green slowly grabbed control of the game in the 2nd quarter. Perry Ayers hit two free throws to end the 1st half to give Bowling Green the 37-35 lead at the break.

The two teams traded buckets throughout the 3rd quarter. Jaylyn McMurry hit a three at a buzzer for the Panthers to pull within three points going into the final period. Bowling Green started to pull away, but the Panthers three point shooting kept Russellville in it. The Purples hit their free throws to pull away from the Panthers 75-68.

Senior guard Perry Ayers scored 17 points and was named the Player of the Game. Ayers was 13-14 from the free throw line. Bowling Green improves to 16-2 and travels to Christian County on Tuesday to take on the #2 ranked Colonels
