Bowling Green and Warren Central met up friday night in a classic rivalry with playoff implications. The Purples escaped 66-61 to remain undefeated in district play.
The Purples jumped out to an early lead. Thomas Booker scored 8 points in the first quarter to lead Bowling Green to 18-8 after 1 quarter. However, the 3 point line became Warren Central’s best friend as the game unfolded. The Dragons went on a run late in the first half to cut the lead to 30-28 late in the 2nd quarter. Booker hit a jumper late to give the Purples a 32-28 lead at the half.
The two teams went back and forth in the 3rd quarter. A late Warren Central three pointer to tie the game at 49 going into the final period. The two teams continued to battle in the final period. With the Purples with a slight lead late, the Dragons were forced to foul. Senior guard Perry Ayers hit free throws late to put the Dragons away for good. Bowling Green ended up victorious by a final score of 66-61.
Thomas Booker scored 19 points and was named the Player of the Game. Bowling Green improves to 18-2(5-0 district) and are in complete control of first place in the district. The Purples are back in action next Tuesday against South Warren in a district showdown.
