Purples defeat Spartans to advance to District Championship/Region Tournament

Bowling Green started their pursuit of a third straight district title Wednesday night. The Purples defeated South Warren 79-59 to advance to the District championship game and clinch a spot in the Region tournament.
The Spartans started the game off with a bang as Jaxson Smith hit a three right off the tip. The Purples answered with an 8-0 run to take an 8-3 lead. The two teams went back and forth to end the 1st quarter as the Purples took a 19-12 lead after the first period. The second quarter was all Bowling Green. The Purples dominated South Warren, outscoring the Spartans 23-11 to take a commanding 19 point lead going in to the half.
However, South Warren proved they weren’t going away easy. Dayton Gumm and company clawed their way back into the game. The Spartans cut the lead to 53-44 to make the score a single digit game going into the final quarter. The Spartans cut the lead to 7, but the Purples went on a 12-0 run to win by a final score of 79-59.
Deangelo Wilson scored 23 points and was named the Player of the Game. The Purples improve to 26-2 and will play the winner of Warren Central and Warren East for the district championship Saturday night. The Spartans season ends with a 14-15 record.
