Lady Purples Fight Hard, But Fall Short in District Final

In the 14th District Championship game, the Lady Purples hosted South Warren on Friday night.  The last time these two teams met, Bowling Green won 38-32.  We would almost have that score by the half.

Bowling Green would strike first, but the Lady Spartans did not take long to respond, and we would basically trade baskets for the first quarter.  The Lady Purples would lead after the first 15-14.  Then Bowling Green started the second quarter with an eight point run.  But South Warren answered with a six point run of their own, and it was a tight game the rest of the half.  Bowling Green would lead at the half 34-32.  But the Lady Spartans would take control late in the third, capitalizing off Lady Purples turnovers to notch an 8-2 run to close out the period.  The Lady Purples fought back in the fourth, and with Keely Morrow and Taylor Hunter fouling out late, were able to force overtime.  South Warren scored the first four points of the extra period, and the Lady Purples answered with the next three.  Timitry Patterson would make two free throws in the final seconds, giving the Lady Spartans a three point lead.  Bowling Green would put in a shot at the rim at the buzzer, but it would not be enough as time runs out with Bowling Green falling to South Warren 66-67.  Amaya Lasley led the Lady Spartans with 30 points.  Keely Morrow led the Lady Purples with 21.
