Lady Purples Red Hot from Outside, Upend Russell County

Starting their run through the Region from the Runner Up position, the Lady Purples took on Russell County on Sunday night.  Not much was known about the Lady Laker team, but they brought a lot of size and skill to the tourney.

The Lady Purples would strike first with a three, but after a couple of minutes, the Lady Laker defense started to make it tough for BG to score, and Russell County took a lead mid way through the quarter.  But Bowling Green would turn up the pressure at mid court, and after forcing several turnovers, the Lady Purples would end the quarter on a 13 point run, and took the lead back.  Russell County would storm back in the second, outscoring Bowling Green 13-5 at one point, and drawing it to a four point game at the half.

But the Lady Purples were too hot from the three point line to be derailed on Sunday night.  When Russell County would bring it close, a three from Markizjah Mimms or Nataia Martin would keep them at bay.  Bowling Green would not lose the lead after the first quarter, and move on to the semifinals with a 65-53 win.  Markizjah Mimms and Nataia Martin each had 19 points to lead the way for Bowling Green.  Deija Moore also reached double figures with 12.
