Local Players Skate to a KHSHL State Hockey Championship

Four student athletes from three area high schools were part of a joint HS team with students from Owensboro HS, Apollo HS, Owensboro Catholic HS, Daviess Co. HS, Bowling Green HS, Greenwood HS, and South Warren HS.  The team competes in the Kentucky High School Hockey League (KHSHL).   The KHSHL is composed of eight high schools from across Kentucky and includes Trinity HS, St. X HS, Paul Dunbar HS, Louisville Eastern HS, Evansville, Oldham Co., and Henry Clay HS.  The 2015-2016 season began in October and concluded March 6th with the KHSHL State Tournament. FullSizeRender (3)

Senior Davis Cross, sophomore Caine Burke from Bowling Green high, Greenwood senior Eric Schwender and senior Nathanael Wilson from South Warren were instrumental in the success of this year’s team.

The season consists of 50 games with home games and practice being held at the Edge Ice Arena in Owensboro.

Davis Cross and Caine Burke played the forward position for the Rampage. Cross found the back of the net 27 times for the Rampage generating 68 points this season, good enough to be the third leading scorer on the team.

Nathanael Wilson and Eric Schwender were both defensemen. Wilson accumulated 4 goals and 26 assist this season.  In the KHSHL, he ranked second among defensemen in points.  During his senior season, Nathanael was elected Alternative Captain and was awarded the Brandon Mullins Leadership Scholarship in February. He was also named Honorable Mention on the All-State team.

After a 4-11-0 start, the Rampage closed the season 29-3-3 with three tournament wins (Columbus, Knoxville,State Tournament) During the State Tournament the Rampage out shot their three opponents 93-27 and out- scored them 14-2.

The Owensboro Rampage capped off a perfect league schedule by defeating Louisville Trinity 6-0 in the KHSHL State Championship game. In the first round, the Rampage survived 2-1 over Henry Clay to advance to the semi-finals.  In the semi-finals, the Rampage dominated Dunbar 6-1 and advanced to the State Championship game vs Louisville Trinity.  In the championship game it was all Ramapge as they took it to Trinity on their home ice with a dominating 6-0 state championship win!FullSizeRender (2)

The Rampage ended their season with an overall record of 33-14-3
