Week Three in Football
Last week Meade County rebounded from their pounding to Simon Kenton by dialing up the old offensive strategy which has been a staple in the Green Wave playbook – The Running Game! Head coach Larry Mofield survived an early scare by the Shelby County Rockets by putting up 44-straight points in a 58-13 blow out. The Green Wave ground out 583-yards against the Rockets rushing defense and Zach Babb had 286 of them in just 12-carries and scored four touchdowns including a 24-yard run, 28-yard run, 44-yard run and truly a 78-yard run all scoring plays. DeShawn Welch also had 136-yards in 13-carries as Meade County didn’t throw a pass during the game. Although Mofield had referred to the Rockets unstoppable option, it appears the Green Wave’s early demise may have been premature.
Because of predicted bad weather, several games were moved around to either Thursday or Saturday. Not Central Hardin’s as they mud wrestled the Centurions on a rainy dreary night. Christian-Academy of Louisville scored twice, once in the second quarter and once in the third and simply used their strong defense and running game to ground out a 15-0 win over the Bruins. It was Central Hardin’s first loss of the season, but they won’t be the last team to fall to CAL this season. 
Josh Jagger entered week three staring at a 2-0 team (his own) about to go 3-0 as the Hawks scored quickly and often in a 49-14 pounding of the Thomas Nelson Generals. Once again the running game played a key role as both Bryson Cobb (168-yards, two-touchdowns) and Anthony Adkins (102-yards, two-touchdowns) had big games. LaRue County started 3-0 last in 2002 and will face Taylor County the following week in a showdown of unbeaten.
The showcase game between two longtime rivals turned out to be not quite as Elizabethtown took advantage of a strong running game and senior Jay Becherer. Becherer ran for 135-yards and scored three times (once on a 60-yard run, a 46-yard catch from quarterback Tyler Durbin and a 79-yard punt return. The Panthers 50-14 win ended what had turned out to be a fine three day weekend of football.
