FS wins 3rd Region Golf Tournament, SW’s C.M. Mixon wins individual

The Franklin-Simpson boys golf team put together a solid outing and brought home the Third Region crown on Monday afternoon at Indian Hills Golf Course in Bowling Green.

The Wildcats defeated the second-place Bowling Green Purples by 20 strokes, and Franklin-Simpson had four golfers place in the top eight.

Wilson placed second individually and led Franklin-Simpson with a score of 70, but his putt to tie Mixon in the first playoff hole was just off the mark.

While the Wildcats saw a remarkable performance from the youngster Wilson, experience is what paced Franklin-Simpson in the win. Senior Clay Spears placed third with a score of 71, while fellow seniors Brandon Fykes and Alex Gilbert placed fifth and sixth with scores of 74 and 75, respectively.

Bowling Green (210) was led by sophomore Collier Curd. Curd shot a 74 to finish with the fourth best individual score in the tourney.

South Warren junior C.M. Mixon brought home the individual title for the tourney with a score of 70, marking the second consecutive year a golfer from South Warren has won the individual region title.

Franklin-Simpson and Bowling Green both advance to the Leachman Buick GMC State Golf Championship, which is set to played in Bowling Green next Tuesday and Wednesday.
