Purples win fifth straight game after routing Warren Central

Heading into Friday’s matchup with Warren Central, Bowling Green’s season-high in points was 44 against Pleasure Ridge Park during Week 2.

The season-best of 44 points lasted two weeks.

The Purples (5-0) eclipsed half of 100, handing the Dragons their fifth straight loss this year, 50-6.

Bowling Green’s impressive performance on both ends of the field was evident, as it scored all 50 of its points before Warren Central would visit the end-zone.

Vito Tisdale, who is one of the top recruits in the state of Kentucky, ended his night with an astounding 16.4 yards a carry, putting together a 164-yard and two touchdown performance.

Tisdale’s counterpart Beau Buchanan matched with two touchdowns of his own through the air, adding 210 yards in the process.

The Purples’ signal-caller called the offense one of top units in the area and for the state of Kentucky, for that matter. He might right after Bowling Green put up nearly 500 yards (464) of total offense. On top of that, the Purples held the Dragons below 80 yards.

“I feel like we have one of the best offenses in the state,” Buchanan said. “That is the confidence we want to have as a team. We expect to score on every single drive. We want to score on every single drive.”

Bowling Green didn’t waste anytime on its first series. Buchanan quickly led the Purples down the field and hit wide receiver Scotty Brown for a nine-yard throw, giving Bowling Green an early 7-0 advantage.

The Purples would cap off the first quarter with a one-yard scoring run by Tisdale and a touchdown pass by Buchanan.

The Dragons got the goose egg off the board when quarterback Xavier Ingram visited the end-zone on a one-yard keeper.

While the scoreboard showed Bowling Green won the game by 44 points, coach Mark Spader there’s going to have to be some improvements.

Even though Buchanan ended his night with a double dose of passing touchdowns, he also pitched a couple of interceptions.

“We are doing things that will be so fatal to us in big games that we have to eliminate,” Spader said. “We are coaching it. We are revisiting it. Eventually we have to grow up and get beyond that. Our kids are smart and they know that.

“We have to get all of that ironed out because there are some really tough teams down the road where we can’t have that happen,” Spader added.

It wasn’t just the offense that was scoring, however. The Purples’ special teams unit got in on the action after Seth Rainville blocked a punt at the end of the third quarter, giving Bowling Green a 43-0 lead heading into the final 12 minutes.

“(The special teams) took a step forward today,” Spader said. “I thought coming out of the Owensboro game that we had a lot of work to do and they took a step forward and we did some really good things on special teams.”

With five more weeks, Spader likes the progress his team has made.

“I still believe we are a championship (team) when we play at that level (where we scored on four straight drives),” Spader said. “It’s just the consistency (that is the problem) and we have to get to it really quick. I think potentially, and that is a terrible word to use, that we have a great team, but we have to get beyond hurting ourselves.”
