5th Region Volleyball Preview
Central set to Repeat as Champions!
With the 5th Region Volleyball Tournament set to start at Marion County high school Monday and a total of seven games all together it should be a great opportunity to witness some great play by several great teams. Monday evening, Washington County will face Elizabethtown at 6:00 and then Taylor County will face off with LaRue County at 7:45 pm. Head coach John Rogers Commanderettes have shown great improvement with a 23-10 record after going 15-22 last year.
Washington County lost only one player from last year (Madison Hilton) and have shown a more mature approach and that has shown in their record. Still, against an Elizabethtown team which has shown a business like approach all season long that will be tested in Game One. Taylor County has the best record in the Region and could be the toughest test Central Hardin might face having already beaten the Lady Bruins earlier in the season.
Stephen Zink has only two seniors on this years team and should be tough to face next year as well. Central Hardin will begin in defense of their Region Title Tuesday with a 6:00 start with Bardstown and then Green County will face homestanding Marion County at 7:45 pm. Bardstown coach Keyata Harmon has had a tough first season with the Lady Tigers after taking over for James Brewer, who took over for Felicia Sanchez and facing the Lady Bruins in their first round game is not the best way to start. Green County has been a pleasant surprise with a 22-win season thus far and should give Marion County a good set. Much of what head coach Donnie Jaggers does is set around sophomore outside hitter Emma Howell and Marion County has 24-wins this season around an experienced group.
The semi-finals are Wednesday and the Final is set for Thursday. There is no reason why Central Hardin shouldn’t be around for the final barring an upset. The question being who will they face? Taylor County seems to be the best bet, but Elizabethtown has been called too young, not experienced enough and continues to change minds and opinions along the way. Either way, Thursday Night in Marion County should be a lot of fun for at least two teams.
