Cary Fowler has been named the next head football coach at Warren Central High School, a source confirmed to The Sporting Times on Friday. The news was first reported by Elliott Pratt of the Bowling Green Daily News.

Fowler, a Hopkinsville, Ky. native, spent the past two seasons serving as the defensive coordinator at Eastern Illinois. He was elevated to assistant head coach in February 2018.

A former player at Murray State, Fowler previously spent one season as defensive coordinator at Howard Payne University in Texas in 2016 before joining the EIU staff. Prior to holding that position, Fowler was the head coach at Tarleton State (Texas) from 2010-15.

As a player, Fowler helped Murray State win Ohio Valley Conference championships in 1995 and 1996. As a coach, he was named the NCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year in 2005.

Fowler inherits a Warren Central program that has lost 35 consecutive games dating back to the 2015 season. He replaces Joel Taylor, who served as the Dragons’ head coach from 2016-18.

Fowler and his wife, Shanan, have two daughters.
