ACS wins 6-1 over Warren East

Allen County-Scottsville’s bats have been hot as of late.

After recording 11 hits in an 8-5 win last Saturday over South Warren, the Patriots put together another strong offensive outing Tuesday en route to a 6-1 win against Warren East at Patriot Field.

ACS (10-15 overall) and East played a scoreless opening inning but the Patriots soon caught fire in the bottom of the second and unloaded for six runs on four hits to build a comfortable lead and didn’t look back.

Aaron Howell led the way for Allen County-Scottsville with a 2-for-2, 2-RBI showing, while Brett Rippy finished with a hit and a pair of RBI. Hunter Foster started on the mound for the Patriots and allowed just two hits and a run in four complete innings of work, while Matthew Brown and Owen Stamper — who hadn’t pitched at all this season due to an injury — both earned time on the hill.

Tanner Burckhard went 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Raiders (14-19).

After an inning-and-a-half of scoreless baseball, Allen County-Scottsville broke loose in the bottom of the second.

With the bases loaded after a single from Zane Ward, a fielder’s choice and a walk, Brown stepped to the plate and was walked to push in the run from third and score the first run of the game. In the next at-bat, Rippy doubled to score a pair of runners and make it 3-0.

Following Rippy’s hit, Howell laid down a single to allow another pair to cross — and Foster recorded a single of his own in the next at-bat to plate another run and give the Patriots a comfortable 6-0 lead after two complete innings.

Warren East scored on an ACS fielding error in the top of the fourth, but it still trailed 6-1 and wouldn’t be able to overcome that deficit.

Allen County-Scottsville will try for a third straight win Wednesday when it hosts Franklin-Simpson at 5:30 p.m. Warren East will look to bounce back Thursday against Russell County at Raider Ballpark. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
