The Week in Football – Week 2
Last week the Central Hardin Bruins had a score to settle with the John Hardin Bulldogs. The 2018 loss to the Bulldogs, after leading throughout much of the game left a lingering effect for the Bruins as they spirled out of control towards a 3-8 record. This time around, the quarterback situation was more stable with Chase Elmore back behind center and both he and senior back Deonco Wilkerson were looking for some kind of payback as both missed last years game. Wilkerson ran for two touchdowns and caught one from Elmore in a huge 50-6 win over John Hardin. Wilkerson totaled 110-yards running on just seven carries and caught two passes for 95-yards. Central Hardin tallied over twice as much yardage (480 to 159) and held a 28-0 halftime lead before the Bulldogs knew what hit them. Meanwhile, the Bruins held the Bulldogs to just 42-yards passing and just 117-yards rushing.
The Bruins are soaring, while John Hardin’s murders row schedule continues with a Elizabethtown next and then Meade County and North Hardin following next.

Meanwhile, North Hardin and Elizabethtwon played the type of game which the Bruins and Bulldogs are used to playing against each other meaning very physical and brutal. In a game in which offense was at a minimum, both teams failed to score in the first quarter, each scored a touchdown in the second and North Hardin finished strong scoring in the third and fourth for a 20-13 win. It was the second straight for the Trojans over the Panthers and the third such win over a Mark Brown coached team. Although the offensive line opened holes in the second half allowing runningback Lavell Wright plenty of lanes to ground out 169-yards rushing and two touchdowns, it was really the stout Trojans defense which really won the game for Big Blue holding the explosive Elizabethtown offense to just 188-yards and the dangerous Joseph Becherer to only 59-yards rushing. In a matchup of two Top Ten teams in their respective Class’, it was North that won the Mayor’s Cup.
For the second straight week, LaRue County found the going tough, this time to a determined Taylor County team. The Cardinals showed the Region champions no respect as they held the Hawks running game to around 170-yards and quarterback Conner Baker scored both LaRue County touchdowns in a 34-13 loss.

Like the Bruins, Meade County was looking to wipe the unhappy memory of a 3-8 2018 record and after a opening day bye, the Green Wave surprised with a 26-21 win over Franklin-Simpson Wildcats. The Green Wave overcame a 7-6 halftime deficit and New Albany, Ind transfer Austin Oppel came up big with 121-yards rushing and scored three touchdowns on the road. Looks like the Green Wave will challenge for the District Championship along with North hardin and Central Hardin.
Bardstown rebounded from a 47-25 loss to Pikeville last week with an impressive 28-7 win over Danville.

Grayson County have surprised some after head coach Ed Smart predicted doom and gloom with the 2019 version of the Cougars after a huge graduating class of starters, but he followed last week’s win over Hancock County with a shutout over Nelson county, 49-0. Hunter Gibson came up big with 122-yards rushing and 3-touchdowns rushing.
