LIGHTS ON BEFORE LIGHTS OUT ON THE 2020 SPRING SPORTS SEASON

Maybe the 2020 Spring season is over for Kentucky high school sports, but area schools tried to find some way to honor the seniors and other athletes that may have felt cheated out of their last high school season of seasonal sports.

Baseball, Fast pitch Softball, Tennis, Track and Field along with several other club sports saw schools like North Hardin, John Hardin and Central Hardin find different ways to honor their seniors. Several weeks ago, North Hardin sponsored a drive by where parents, fans and relatives could stay in their cars as they drove through a well concieved path which began past the tennis field, then past the Baseball field and along the track section of the Football field which also leads past the softball field where all respective athletes, coaches and administration had senior banners, photo collages and signs on display to honor their seniors in respective sports.

It’s something that took time to put together, but it was also a safer way to allow fans and participants be a part of “Saying Good-bye” to their athletes which best accorded them within Covid-19 safety paramaters. In many ways, it resembled a parade and the following week, John Hardin high school and Central Hardin high school got into the act.

John Hardin had a drive through path set up much like North Hardin’s that began towards the Baseball and Softball field and eventually zig zagged towards the tennis courts while coaches, athletes and administration cheered on. Even the Bulldog mascot got into the act greeting drivers as they sifted through. The Bulldog drive through began at 7:30 Tuesday night and Central Hardin had theirs set up about 8:00pm so fans and relatives could check out the celebration at both schools.

North Hardin extended their senior salute with a “Lights ON” at the football stadium and the scoreboard lite up as well for twenty minutes and twenty seconds (2020) as a final farewell to them. A driveby was set up in that case as well as fans took pictures and waved to their favorite players or coaches.

Elizabethtown had a similar event to honor their spring athletes and seniors and I also heard that Hart County, Breckinridge County and several other schools in the 3rd and 5th Region had similar celebrations for their senior athletes and there may be more coming.

They can’t have the 2020 Spring Sports season back…

……..but at least for now this might help.
