One of the biggest aspects of a team is to have multiple playmakers, and that’s all that the Bowling Green Purples have. BGHS marched to a 41-7 win over the Owensboro Red Devils on the backs of several offensive players. “We have a bunch of different guys who can play,” said head coach Kevin Wallace. Wallace’s point was proven on Friday night, as three different players found the end-zone.
The key to the Purples’ offensive success was senior running back Blue Tisdale, who found paydirt four times. Tisdale finished with 53 yards on 15 carries, and had 15 yards receiving. The four touchdowns were a career high for Tisdale, who now has 31 rushing touchdowns in his Purple career. Along with Tisdale, senior Blake Pillow also made an impact in the backfield. To add onto his 44 rushing yards, Pillow also caught two passes for 28 yards and a touchdown. “They’re good every night,” said Wallace on Tisdale and Pillow. Neither of the two running backs would have had quite the day they did without senior quarterback Devin Hayes. Following up from his impressive start against St. Xavier last week, Hayes threw for 216 yards, completing 17/19 of his passes. The precision passing from Hayes was nothing new, as he has completed 40/60 passes in 2013 with no interceptions. Hayes found senior receiver Nacarius Fant often against Owensboro. Fant caught nine passes for 140 yards against Owensboro. Last season, the Red Devils held Fant to 58 yards receiving. The passing game set up Tisdale’s four touchdowns. The air raid allowed Tisdale to punch in touchdowns from short yardage situations.
The offense strung out their drives tonight, rather than make big plays. “We knew that Owensboro would structure their defense to take away big plays,” said Wallace. “I was proud of the methodical drives, we were able to move the ball both on the ground and in the air.”
Along with the offense, the Purples’ defense was impressive against Owensboro. BGHS was in theRed Devil backfield all night, finishing with three sacks and three tackles for loss. The leader of the defense on Friday night was senior Lincoln Quick, who finished with 10 total tackles and one tackle for loss. The Purples’ got a big game from junior Joseph McIntyre. The junior linebacker finished with six total tackles and one sack.
BGHS got big games from players on both sides of the ball against Owensboro. The Red Devils forced the Purples to not make big plays, but BGHS grinded out long drives to win 41-7. The win is the 33rd straight for the Purples, who will travel next week to Chattanooga, Tennessee to take on McCallie School.
