Mason Shirley, Allen County-Scottsville Senior

Named the Sporting Times’ 15th District Player of the Year, Shirley led the Patriots to their first district championship since 2010. The senior averaged 18.4 points per game on 45% shooting and made 50 three-pointers to lead ACS. When the lights were at their brightest, Shirley averaged 17 points per game in the postseason as the Patriots reached the 4th Region semifinals.

Sam Bowling, Glasgow Junior

The 15th District’s leading scorer at 19.9 points per game, Bowling shot 52% from the field, 51% from the three-point line, and 80% from the free throw line. The junior forward’s ability to score from anywhere on the floor terrorized defenses all season.

Jax Cooper, Allen County-Scottsville Senior

Jax Cooper was a do-it-all player for the Patriots in 2021, averaging 14.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. The senior was reliable as a second option to Mason Shirley, having the ability to score in bunches when needed. Cooper tallied 28 points in the district semifinal victory over Monroe County that qualified ACS for the region tournament.

Mason Griggs, Barren County Junior

Griggs led the Trojans in scoring at 15.5 points per game, third in the 15th District. The junior shot 53% from the field and 77% from the charity stripe. His 4.8 rebounds were also second on the team. Griggs 18-point, 11-rebound performance in the region quarterfinals helped Barren advance on the road at Franklin-Simpson.

Jackson Poland, Glasgow Junior

Poland was much more than Bowling’s sidekick this season, scoring 13.8 points per game on 47% shooting. His 19 made three-pointers were third on the team. The junior guard nearly helped lead the Scotties to an upset of Barren County in the district tournament as Poland scored 27 points in the 71-66 loss.

Taye Poynter, Barren County Junior

Taye Poynter averaged 11.7 points per game on the year, while making the most three-pointers in the 15th District with 67. None were bigger, or as exciting, than his half-court swish at the buzzer to beat South Warren in late February.
