Outlook: South Warren’s perfect season came to an end in the Best of the West event at Buchanon Park with a 5-4 loss to Oldham County. The Lady Spartans still sit at 19-1 though and are among the favorites to win the state title next month. Caroline Pitcock is batting .600 and leads the team in hits (39), runs (30), RBI (26), and has hit five home runs.
2. Warren East 16-7 2
Outlook: Warren East got a big win over Henderson County in the Best of the West as Emma Markham continued her outstanding season on the mound. The junior pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and only allowed three hits in the 2-1 victory. The Lady Raiders travel to Muhlenberg County on Thursday, host Bowling Green Friday, and then play in the Team Lauren Cancer Awareness Tournament in Owensboro.
3. Barren County 17-4 3
Outlook: Barren County extended its win streak to nine games, including a 2-1 victory over #6 Russellville. The Trojanettes lead the 4th Region in home runs with 20, while pitcher Lilie Broady leads the region in wins with 14 (tenth in the state). Katie Murphy leads the region in triples with five, ranking her tied for eighth in the state.
4. Greenwood 14-8 4
Outlook: Greenwood continued its streak against the state’s elite, defeating both McCracken County and Ballard in the Best of the West last weekend. Against state-#2 Ballard, the Lady Gators managed only two hits but plated the game’s only run as Josi Morrison knocked in Savannah Warwick. Allison Bush pitched a complete-game one-hitter in victory.
5. Allen County-Scottsville 17-7 6
Outlook: Allen County-Scottsville picked up its best win of the season in a 6-5 win over Warren East on Monday. Jae McReynolds had a day to remember at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Taylor Gregory had added two hits and also knocked in a run for the Lady Patriots.
6. Logan County 13-9 7
Outlook: Logan County has won four of five games, including three victories over district opponents to sit atop the 13th District standings. The Lady Cougars’ recipe for success has been their hot bats. They are among the state’s best in hits (220) and home runs (19). Kaylin Page’s 11 doubles ranks here 17th statewide.
7. Russellville 17-7 5
Outlook: Russellville leads the 4th Region in runs scored with 211, ranking the Lady Panthers tied for twelfth in the state of Kentucky. Amiyah Collier has been the ace on the hill, striking out 90 batters in her first 16 games pitched. As of the latest statistical report, she led RHS in runs, hits, RBI, and triples.
8. Franklin-Simpson 13-13 NR
Outlook: Franklin-Simpson went 2-2 in the Best of the West this past weekend, including a big 4-3 win over state top-ten Great Crossing. In the 4-3 victory, Kaeleigh Tuck knocked in two runs and added a double. Tuck has 12 doubles on the year, ranking her tied for 13th statewide. The Lady Wildcats sit one game behind Logan County for the district lead and play the Lady Cougars next Tuesday at home.
9. Metcalfe County 9-10 8
Outlook: Despite losing four-straight games, the Lady Hornets still are perfect in 16th District play and have all but locked up the #1 seed for the district tournament at the end of the month. Braelyn Davis is batting .569 from the plate with 33 hits, 22 runs, and nine doubles on the season.
10. Russell County 11-6 9
Outlook: Russell County is second in the 16th District behind Metcalfe County and is coming off of a 1-1 performance at the Don Franklin Showcase in Somerset. In an 8-1 win over Corbin, Natalie Hart pitched a complete game, striking out ten and allowing only one run.
