Outlook: Bowling Green breezed through some of the region and state’s best with a 6-0 run over South Warren (x2), Barren County, Male, and Greenwood (x2). The Purples outscored their opponents 47-11 in those six games. Eli Burwash is currently ranked tied for third in the state with 37 runs scored, while Carson Myers is tied for 12th in runs batted in with 33 RBI.
2. Warren East 16-9 6
Outlook: Warren East has won five of seven since being swept by Bowling Green, including a two-game sweep of South Warren to finish second in the 14th District. Chase Carver and Maddox Tarrence each logged four hits in the series win over the Spartans. The Raiders next three games are on the road against Metcalfe County (Friday), Allen County-Scottsville (Saturday), and Glasgow (Monday).
3. South Warren 15-9 3
Outlook: South Warren rebounded from its two-game sweep at the hands of Bowling Green with impressive wins over then #2 Russell County and #8 Franklin-Simpson. Dalton Taylor went 2-for-4 against the Lakers and knocked in four runs. In the Spartans’ 5-4 win over Franklin, Drew Wolfram went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
4. Russell County 18-4 2
Outlook: Russell County has won four straight games since its loss to South Warren, including two district victories to finish the regular season first in the 16th standings with a perfect 6-0 record. In a 5-3 win over Clinton County, Nick Aaron went six innings and struck out eight to earn the win. Nathan Lawson pitched the seventh inning and was awarded the save.
5. Barren County 12-5 4
Outlook: Since its 13-3 loss at Bowling Green, Barren County has outscored its opponents 44-4 in its last four games. Blake Cook picked up two of the wins on the mound, including a 10-strikeout performance against Allen County-Scottsville in a 9-2 win over the Patriots. Brennan Hicks continues to lead the team at the plate, batting .407 with 33 hits and 28 RBI.
6. Greenwood 14-11 5
Outlook: Greenwood swept Warren Central and then was swept by Bowling Green to finish 3-5 in district play and secure the 4-seed for the district tournament at the end of the month. Rhett Dysholm has hit well for the Gators, batting .361 with a team-leading 26 hits (tied), 26 RBI, and eight doubles. The Gators will look to right the ship with games against Cumberland County (Thursday) and Glasgow (Saturday).
7. Franklin-Simpson 12-9 8
Outlook: Franklin-Simpson has won four of its last five games, including two district victories to keep it atop the 13th District standings. In the Wildcats’ 7-3 win over Todd County Central, Luke Richardson went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and four RBI. After suffering close losses to Bowling Green and South Warren recently, the Wildcats will get another crack at each team as it travels to South (Friday) and BG (Saturday).
8. Logan County 13-8 9
Outlook: Logan County has won six in a row after falling below .500 at the end of April. The Cougars bats have been hot, scoring 67 runs in those six games. Macon Barrow now leads the teams with a .423 batting average and 30 hits, while Zach Yates has knocked in 31 RBI and has three home runs. Logan County travels to Franklin-Simpson next Tuesday in what will decide the 13th District regular season title.
9. Glasgow 11-9 7
Outlook: Glasgow has won three of four, picking up important district wins over Allen County-Scottsville and Monroe County. In a 16-0 win over the Falcons, Cole Stephens and Xavier Ferreira each knocked in three runs to lead the rout. The Scotties will have many chances to prove themselves over the course of the next week with home games against #1 Bowling Green (Thursday), #6 Greenwood (Saturday), #2 Warren East (Monday), and #3 South Warren (Wednesday).
10. Clinton County 11-11 10
Outlook: Clinton County went 2-2 over the course of the last week, nearly beating then #2 Russell County. In an 11-1 win over Adair County, Blake Harlan went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. DJ Evans and Walker Casada also knocked in two runs as the Bulldogs cruised. Clinton has another chance at a resume-building win as it travels to South Warren on Thursday evening.
