It’s been a heck of a year for Bardstown Football. The 3-A Tigers have been having a season to remember and coming into their home game against area rival Thomas Nelson they were sporting a 7-0 record. Not only were they the only unbeaten football team in the 3-A ranks, they were the only team in the Region with out a loss. Having asked Tiger coach David Clark if he could ever remember having a team that went that deep in the regular season without a loss, he wasn’t sure. There were several Bardstown teams in the 2-A ranks with 7-0 (2016), 6-0 (2012 and 2011) and after further research the last Tiger team to go this far without a defeat was 2006 when Bardstown under coach Joey Owens went 11-0 before losing in the second round of the playoffs against Bethlehem (23-14) when both teams were single A. That 11-1 team was just before Clark took over so he can help rewrite history if they can continue their momentum which they did with a 54-18 win against Thomas Nelson to go 8-0. Bardstown struck early and often and had the game on a running clock as the third quarter came to a close. Quarterback Brady Clark was 13-of-15 for 264-yards and 4-TDs passing and TJ Greenwell finished with 41-yards running and 3-TDs while catching three of Clarks passes for 123-yards and a touchdown. Tyleeq Williams added 89-yards running and the defense led by Kaden Lydian (12-tackles) kept the Generals under control throughout.
Meanwhile in Class 6-A, there was a matchup between Central Hardin and Meade County that was moved to a Thursday night affair because of weather issues and the winner would play a huge part in who would win their District title. After dropping a heartbreaker at Barren County the week before, the Bruins looked like they were falling into the same pattern as they took and retook the lead against the Green Wave in the second half before finally scoring late thanks to some nifty running by quarterback Zack Spurrier, who scored on a 84-yard and a 27-yard scoring run. The last score broke a tie game with just 3:29 left. Central Hardin continues their rise after a disappointing 2020 season and will play for the District title next week against North Hardin, who won their second straight game against Barren County behind a great defensive effort. The Trojans Defense picked off three passes (Jujuan Williams took one 34-yards for six) and four quarterback sacks.
