2022 Football Preview: Bardstown Tigers

Outlook- The Tigers are coming off a 12-1 season and despite a defensive stumble in the playoffs, they looked to be a safe bet to make a return if they can offset a few problems starting at quarterback. Coach David Clark returns nearly 90% of his offense and just as much of his defense.

Offense- Bardstown scored over 500-points in 13-games and were very effective running and passing the ball last season. The running game accounted for 2,776-yards and with leading ground gainer (TJ Greenwell 1,078-yards-16TDs) coming back along with Tyleeq Williams (856-yards 13TDs) and Shyrel Williams (130yards 1-TD) also returning, the Tigers will not be short of runners. The big question will be under center with Brady Clark (2,888-38-TDs passing) gone. Brayden Clark could be the answer. Whoever calls the signals, they will have a great group of receivers to throw to as Shannon Tonge (50-catches for 946-yds and 14-TDs), TJ Greenwell (48-catches for 900-yards and 10TDS) and Tylee q Williams (29-catches for 496-yards 7-TDs). The Offensive Line returns Charles Ford, Kaden Ferrell, John Floyd and Chandler Newby and should be ready to go once the season starts.

Defense- The Tigers were very tough to score upon as they allowed only 257-points in thirteen games. Like quarterback, the Defensive line lost several starters, so Trace Culler, Charles Floyd and Aiden Riley could get some reps. The Linebackers will return Ryan Lydian (leads the defense in tackles), along with TJ Greenwell, Kaden Ferrell, Ethan Poynter and Kaden Stone. The secondary will return Tylee Williams, Brayden Clark and Shannon Tonge to a group that intercepted 9-interceptions.

Summation- The past two seasons the Tigers have been getting close and only a few unfortunate incidents have prevented them from making a run at the Region Championship. With so many skilled returners coming, there’s no reason to believe that they can’t make another serious run this season.
