Glasgow’s Smith and Glover Dominate in 4th Region Opener

Glasgow vs RussellSenior Glasgow Lady Scottie Shalika Smith and sophomore Bree Glover had a dominating 4th region tournament opening round performance against Russell County. Smith and Glover offensively were unstoppable in the first half combining for 28 of the 30 total points scored by the Lady Scotties.

Despite not having an answer to Smith and Glover, the Lady Lakers found themselves down only by 11 at half. Lakers freshman guard Kaitlyn Coffey and junior guard Madison Loy kept the Lady Lakers in the game during the first half and made a late run in the 3rd quarter to bring the game within 6 points. However the Lady Lakers went cold from 3 point land just hitting 1 of 9 for the game just 6.67% and overall shot 29.0% from the field for the game.

A big reason for the poor shooting was the play of future WKU commit Shalika Smith who had a double-double for the game scoring 21 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Smith also had 3 blocked shots.  Teammate Bree Glover made herself present early and often as the sophomore led all scoring with 27 points and blocked 6 shots during the game._MG_7009

The Lady Scotties shot 50% for the game and dominated in the paint outscoring the Lady Lakers 32-20. Final score Glasgow Lady Scotties 61 – 46 Russell County Lady Lakers.

Glasgow (27-6) will play South Warren (23-8) Saturday March 8 tipoff 1:00pm. South Warren Lady Spartans faced Glasgow once early in the season and lost by 18 points. The young Lady Spartans are a much different team than at the beginning of the season, while the Lady Scotties continue to ride a 16 game win streak, and who have established themselves as the team to beat in the Girls 4th Region tournament.
