Lady Scotties Shine in 4th Region Championship, Bree-ze into Houchens Sweet 16 State Championship

The 2014 Girls 4th region final featured the 2012-2013 4th Region champion Bowling Green Lady Purples and the 2013-2014 All “A” state champions Glasgow Lady Scotties. The Lady Purples (22-4) entered the championship game with a nine game win streak and the Glasgow Lady Scotties (27-6) came into the final game with an eighteen game win streak. Both teams are playing their best basketball and featuring plenty of outstanding players on both sides. IMG_5909

The much anticipated finals turned into a nightmare for the Lady Purples very quickly finding themselves down by 11 at the end of the 1st quarter and down by a whopping 31 points by half.  The Lady Purples were stunned by the Scotties who had no answer for Lady Scottie Bree Glover and Shalika Smith who delivered the one-two punch that rocked the purples in the first half.

The Purples came out firing in the 3rd quarter outscoring the Lady Scotties 10-2 but never could recover from the deficit in the first half. Bree Glover led all scoring with 34 points followed by Shalika Smith with 20.  Alexander added 17; Ashley Smith and Eli Bartley each had four for the Scotties. Both Glover and Smith ended with a double-double with Glover pulling down 16 and Smith 10. IMG_8489

For the Purples Oneisha Turner led the scoring with 32 points and also recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds. Keely Vincent finished with 9, Gabrielle Pruitt 8, Gray and Moore with four points each and Matthews with a 2.

 The Lady Scotties (26-6) will meet Layfayette 11th region Champion (26-3) Wednesday night 8:00 pm tip off at WKU Diddle Arena.
