The Purples took the field amidst a rainstorm on Saturday night, and while it seemed to slow down the offense in the beginning, Bowling Green was able to find their rhythm late. It all started with a safety at the beginning of the game, the Mercer County QB kicked the ball out of the end zone. BG would add to their total after a recovered fumble and a TD completion from Campbell Gott to Deangelo Wilson. At the end of the first, the Purple led 9-0, but Mercer County was driving the field. Their quarterback Baker would punch one in on a 7 yard run on third down, and it was back to a one score game 9-6 after the missed extra point. Bowling Green would answer back before the half though, and a 17 yard run from Jacob Yates would put the Purples up 16-6 at the break.
The Defense continued their dominance into the second half, as Ben Holt basically camped out in the Titan backfield. He would finish with at least 6 tackles for loss in the game. The Purples also force 3 turnovers in the contest. The BG offense started to find their stride in the second half, scoring 4 times in the second half. Yates added another TD run, this one for 66 yards, and a 10 yard reception for a score. Deangelo Wilson brought in his second TD reception of the game, and Jamale Carothers broke off a big 44 yard run to paydirt as well. That began the running clock with about 9 minutes to go in the game, and the Purples would go on to win 44-6.
Bowling Green hits the road next week to take on Lexington Catholic as part of the Republic Bank Bowl. Lexington Catholic was also a part of the Rafferty’s Bowl this year, getting a 43-15 win over Allen County Scottsville. Should be a great game on Friday night, and we hope you’ll join us for it right here on PurplesNation.com!
