Purples Split with ACS

By Joe Brunk:

As flurries fell to the ground, Bowling Green traveled down Scottsville road to ACS for a fourth region doubleheader.

It proved to be a physical battle between the Lady Purples and Lady Patriots, as ACS jumped out to an early lead. Oneisha Turner came off the bench for BG, and the Lady Purples went on a run to end the first quarter. Turner with a hoop and the harm tied things up at 20 at the end of the first. BG then got hit with the injury bug in the second, losing Taylor Hunter, Natia Martin, and Oneisha Turner as the Lady Patriots outscored BG by 12 to take a commanding lead. Turner would come back in the third quarter, and so did the Lady Purples, outscoring ACS by eight in the period. But Allen County Scottsville would be too much down the stretch, led by Morgan Rich’s 30 points, and BG falls on the road 67-76. Oneisha Turner led the Lady Purples with 26 points.

The guys game wasn’t nearly as physical, but remained close for most of the first half. Terry Taylor and Perry Ayers were a nice 1-2 punch to lift the Purples offense in the second quarter, as BG went on a 13-0 run. ACS would close the gap to six, but Bowling Green would get some baskets late to take a ten point lead to break 34-24. Terry Taylor had 15 points and 5 rebounds at the half. Bowling Green would score the first nine points of the second half to send this game into cruise control the rest of the way. The Purples win big on the road 75-40. Terry Taylor finished with 21 points, Perry Ayers notched 16, and Malik Carothers also reached double figures with 10.
