Lady Spartans Earn Season Split with Lady Dragons

By Fletcher Keel

The Lady Spartans improved to 17-4 on the season as they extracted a bit of revenge against Warren Central, who walked into their building a week ago and escaped with a four point victory. This time around, it’d be South Warren who’d get the last laugh, putting together a stellar second half and, ultimately, winning by 10, 56-46.

The game started strong for South, as the Lady Spartans took a 7-2 lead in the opening few minutes, but from there, went cold, and Warren Central took full advantage, taking a 13-9 lead thanks in part to an 8-0 run. The Spartans would once again make a game out of things and eventually take a lead into the halftime break at 27-22.

Once the ball was inbounded to begin play in the back two quarters, it was all South Warren, as they rolled in the third and fourth quarters on their way to the 56-46 final.

Just as was the case a week ago at South Warren, Amaya Lasley was the offensive spark plug again, ending the night with 19 points, 16 of which came in the first half. Colby Downing neared double digits as she was clutch from the free throw line, and Deanna Taylor and Lexi Daniel not only logged key minutes in their young careers, but also were big factors as well, finishing with eight points a piece.

Not a single Lady Dragon notched 10 or more points, although a pair – Noochie Patterson and Zakoria Hill – finished with nine.

The Lady Spartans will be back in action this weekend as they travel up the road to Russellville on Friday.
