Purples Advance to Round of 8

Back in Rupp Arena for the second year in a row, the Purples began their run in the KHSAA Sweet 16 by taking on Elliott County. The Lions entered the tourney as the 16th region champ, and was known as a team with great tenacity capable of a strong finish. Bowling Green would make sure any late game action from the Lions wouldn’t affect the overall outcome.

The Purples jumped out to the early lead with an 8-0 run. Elliott County would struggle from the field the entire first quarter, notching only six points. The quarter ended with two missed free throws from the Lions, a rebound by Bowling Green, a cross court pass from Tucker Sine, and a three pointer at the buzzer from Perry Ayers, and the Purples led 21-6 after 1. Chase Porter would start to find some offense for Elliott County in the second, but they could not keep up with BG’s up tempo game and the Purples continued to extend their lead to the break, up 43-19.
Porter would knock down a couple threes to start the third quarter, as an early 11-5 run for the Lions brought the Purples’ lead to 18. But the twin towers of Kyran Jones and Terry Taylor would prove to be too much, as Jones would finish with 20 points. Add Tucker Sine’s four three pointers in the game, and BG’s dominance of the glass, and it equals a runaway victory for Bowling Green 86-44. Tucker Sine was named the player of the game with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Terry Taylor would also reach double figures with 10.

Bowling Green in action again tomorrow night, taking on either Calloway County or Knott County Central. Tip is scheduled for 8:00 ET (7:00 CT), and you can catch it right here on PurplesNation.com!
