Greenwood Gators Back in Win Column Defeat Franklin-Simpson

Greenwood looked to get back into the winning column Friday night with a matchup down 31W against the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats. This matchup was sure to be a dandy, as both teams came into the game 2-1 and boasted some prolific offenses. The Gators would strike first with a 2 yard touchdown run by Xezayier Snorton. Jackson Adams would make it 14-0 with 11 seconds left in the first after a 6 yard touchdown run.

The Wildcats would answer with 9:16 left in the second quarter, as running back Isiah Hall would break one loose for a 34 yard touchdown to make it 14-7 Gators. Noah Pillow would keep the ball rolling for Greenwood with a 37 yard touchdown dash, making the score 21-7 halfway through the second. Josiah Robey would help Franklin-Simpson get the final score of the half, as he charged into the end zone from 9 yards out to make it 21-14. IMG_9479

The second half was all Greenwood, as star quarterback Jackson Adams bolted for a 76 yard touchdown run with 8:32 to go in the third and a 1 yard touchdown run with 10:08 to go in the fourth, extending the Gator lead to 21 (35-14). Wildcat receiver Evan Figert caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jackson Caudill to give it one last run, cutting the lead to 35-21. However, it was too little too late as the Gators defense kept up the strong second half effort. Greenwood got the win 35-21 to move to 3-1 on the season. Jackson Adams was the player of the game, as he finished the game with 27 carries for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Up next for the Gators next Friday night is the Logan County Cougars. This will be only the second home game of the season for Greenwood. Hear all of the action with Brian Talley and me at sportingtimesmagazine.com
