The Raiders traveled North Tuesday night to Leitchfield, KY to take on the Grayson County Cougars. The game would be a dandy that no one would have predicted. The first quarter was back and forth with the Cougars holding a 17-14 lead. Trey Goff had 11 for the Cougars; Kaleb Britt had 7 for the Raiders. The second quarter would be much of the same, very defensive for both teams.
Warren East would go into the half down 28-23. Goff was the leading scorer in the half for the Cougars with 14; Mackenzie Strange for the Raiders with 10. The third quarter would stay in favor of Grayson County as they extended their lead to 44-38 behind solid team basketball and tough defense. The fourth quarter is where the drama would unfold. The Raiders stormed all the way back thanks to another stellar performance by Strange; who hit the game tying three pointer from 30 feet out on the right wing with no time left to force overtime! From there Warren East would prevail with a defensive steal with 3.5 seconds left up by 1 by Khalil Britt to seal the deal. Adante Barber played outstanding defense for the Raiders, holding Cougars leading scorer Trey Goff to 2 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.
With the 65-64 overtime victory, Warren East moves to 6-1 on the season (1-0 District). Mackenzie Strange is the Bluegrass Cellular Player of the Game with 25 points and the big three pointer to force overtime at the end of regulation. The Raiders will play next Monday at 6:30 against Hopkins County Central in their own Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic Tournament.
