Purples Sweep Double Header Against Trojans Move to 12-2

The Lady Purples hosted Barren County to start off a region doubleheader on Tuesday night.  Coach Piper Lindsey had the Trojanettes ready to go early, but the Lady Purples proved to be too much.  They had a 16 point run in the second quarter to lead 40-16 at the half, and had running clock to start the fourth quarter.  The Lady Purples cruised to victory 64-29.  Oneisha Turner had 18 points.

Barren County traveled to Bowling Green to take on the Purples in a matchup of the top two teams in the region. Suprisingly, defense was the story as the Purples prevailed over the Trojans by a final score of 49-39.
The two teams started out slow as the Purples led by a score of only 9-8 after the 1st quarter. The Purples really made things interesting when they switched from man-to-man to a 2-3 defense late in the 2nd quarter. The Purples used a 7-0 which ended up being the difference at the end of the 1st half as the Purples led 26-19 at the half. Barren County senior forward Gavin Driver led all scorers at the half with 11 points.

 The Purples defense continued to cause problems for the Trojan’s offense in the 3rd quarter, forcing multiple turnovers which led to Purple points at the other end. The Purples stretched their lead to 40-26 after 3 quarters. Barren County Senior guard and Coastal Carolina commit Wade Coomer hit a big three early in the 4th quarter to try to give his Trojans a spark, but the Purples eventually pulled away. The Purples defeated the Trojans 49-39 to retain their top spot in the  rankings. Kyran Jones led the Purples with 15 points and was named the Player of the Game.
The Purples improve to 12-2(2-0 district) and are back in action friday night against Greenwood in a district showdown.
