Purples chomp Gators in defensive battle

The Lady Purples started off the district header as a heavy favorite over the visiting Lady Gators.  And though they started slow, the game would not remain close for long.  After holding Greenwood without a field goal for half the second quarter, Bowling Green would go on an 8 point run, distancing themselves from the competition 45-24 at the half.  There would be a running clock for most of the fourth quarter, and the Lady Purples cruised to victory 84-43.  TaMia Matthews led the way with 20 points.

Greenwood traveled to Bowling Green High School on friday night to take on the Purples. Defense was the story throughout the game as the Purples defeated the Gators 57-33.
The Purples defense completely shut down the Gators in the 1st quarter, holding the Gators to only one field goal to take an 11-2 lead. In the 2nd quarter the two teams went back and forth. The Gators 1-3-1 slowed the Purples down offensively. In the 2nd quarter the Gators outscored the Purples 9-8 but the Purples maintained a 19-11 lead at the half. Deangelo Wilson led all scorers with 7 points at the break.
Terry Taylor opened the 2nd half with his first bucket of the game on an old-fashioned 3 point play. The Purples slowly started to put some cushion between them and the Gators by taking a 35-18 lead late in the 3rd quarter. A Dawson Crump full court shot at the buzzer shortened the Purple lead to 35-21 after the 3rd quarter. The Purples started pouring it on in the final quarter, outscoring the Gators 22-12 to defeat Greenwood by a final score of 57-33.
Deangelo Wilson scored 19 points to lead the Purples and was named the Player of the Game. The Purples improve to 13-2(3-0 district) and will play Russel County next tuesday in a region showdown.
