The Region 4 Tournament started off with a bang for the Warren Central Dragons. The District 14 Runner Up’s first round matchup against the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats was close for the 1st period, but after that, the Dragons dominated their opponent with suffocating defense and great play by several key players. Warren Central defeated Franklin-Simpson 69-42 and will advance to play Barren County Monday, March 7th.
Diddle Arena was the site where the Dragons won yet another post season game. Led by senior guard Tristen Murray, who scored 18 points and was named our Bluegrass Cellular Player of the Game, Warren Central out-scored their opponent in every period played. They also dominated inside, out-rebounding the Wildcats 51-31, winning the battle in second chance points 20-10, and getting key contributions from senior forward Darrell Bowman with 12 points and sophomore forward Skyelar Potter with 11.
Not only did Warren Central play well, Franklin-Simpson could buy a basket. The District 13 Champions shot 17-64 (26.6%) for the game and made only one three pointer out of 21 attempts (4.8%). Junior sensation Tavin Lovan was held to 18 points and 14 rebounds, but couldn’t do enough to get them back in the game.
The Dragons advance to 19-12 on the season and 9-6 in region play. The will next play Barren County March 7th, a team they lost to earlier this year.
