Raiders Can’t Slow Down Greenwood in Opener

The 2nd annual Possum bowl and first game of the 2016 season for the Warren East Raiders did not go as planned. Turning the ball over four times and several drive killing penalties throughout the night, the Greenwood Gators defeated the Raiders 39-7.

The scoring started from the very beginning for the Gators as former Warren East player Willie Reynolds ran back the opening kickoff 90-yards for the touchdown. Greenwood would take advantage of two interceptions of Raider QB senior Chauncey Greer in the first quarter scoring two more times in the period, taking an 18-0 lead.

Greenwood led at halftime 32-0, but the Warren East Raiders did not quit. A scoreless 3rd quarter for both teams highlighted much improved defensive play by the Raiders. Warren East recovered three fumbles in the 2nd half and looked to be building confidence. One final score by Reynolds, his third TD of the night in the 4th quarter looked to end the game but the Raiders weren’t done.

Greer found senior Patrick Satterfield on a last second hail mary to extinguish the shutout. The first points of the season came as the final buzzer sounded of the game, but Greenwood took the victory.

Greer threw for over 200 yards but had 4 interceptions. Satterfield was named our Bowling Green Home Furnishing Player of the Game with 68 rushing yards and 69 receiving yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders advance to 0-1 on the season and will play Monroe County next week. Listen to every Warren East football game this season on STBN.
